Diary of a (now white) house,

Well, save a few finishing touches, we are now a white house! I’m going to start by saying that I know that white is not for everyone – it wasn’t for me, at least until recently. But – just as grey and green and blue and yellow are not for everyone, we can be thankful that the Benjamin Moore deck has literally hundreds of colors to chose from!

From the whites, my initial contenders were: cloud white, chantilly lace, oxford white and the winner – simply white. For me, simply white, is simply gorgeous and just perfect for me in my home right now!!

I’m not sure when or why the movement for white started in my life, but it did and I needed to follow my design instinct. The thing about design and about color is that it is a completely personal relationship. There are hard and fast rules to follow, but the bottom line is that the reaction to a tone is a highly personalized and initialized experience. This relationship is not static; it changes as we change. What we once considered beautiful can wane.

The thing about paint is that it really is the most cost effective way to freshen up and breathe new life into a home. The perfect color can of paint costs no more than the mediocre color can of paint. Explore your options, consider what you are working with in your home – do your due diligence before committing to your picture-perfect hue.

Simply White is a super versatile, quiet chalk-like white with few undertones to contend with and it still has a beautiful sense of both cleanliness and warmth. Like every color, you must recognize how it plays with all the elements in your home and with your light. For now, this is my color! Thanks for following this journey! Colleen xoxo
